Hi! I’m Katie. I’m a city-livin’ adventure-driven hiker, backpacker, and camper.
I’ve been known to get a bit too excited when talking backpacking gear, I prefer campfire banana boats over s’mores, and I’d live in my tent every weekend if I didn’t fear that my partner would totally disown me.
My trail addiction began in 2009 as I was preparing to hike the Inca Trail. That year I bought a bunch of hiking books, dog-eared all of the strenuous hikes, and set-up a weekly training schedule. Hiking the Inca Trail was absolutely amazing, but the weekly training hikes with my group of girlfriends were life-changing. We celebrated the summits, encouraged each other on the difficult climbs, and through it all became much better friends. Since then, most of my favorite memories have taken place around a campfire or on the trail.
I started Trees and Tents as a way to track my hikes in hopes of eventually creating an easily searchable database of walks, hikes, and outdoor adventures. But, it has turned into a passion to help more women confidently and competently explore the backcountry.
I’ve since hiked the High Sierra Trail, Three Sisters Loop, Skyline to the Sea, the Lost Coast, Trans-Catalina Trail, Grand Canyon Rim to Rim, and part of the John Muir Trail. In 2019 I became a certified California Naturalist to help support nature access and education for all.
